Bangladesh government has selected 24 factories in country for setting example in professional health and safety for workers.
This will be the second edition of professional health and safety awards for factories after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina launched the event last year to raise health and safety awareness among factory owners and management.
Speaking at a press briefing at her ministry office on April 27, 2019, State Minister for Labour and Employment, Munnujan Sufian said the award will be handed out on April 28, 2019, the day Bangladesh will observe professional health and safety awards day.
“Bangladesh government will do all that is necessary for ensuring a healthy professional health and occupational safety for the workers,” she said. “We have formed safety committees at 2,262 garments factories. We are encouraging social dialogue for dispute resolution.”
The awards will be handed out to 28 factories under different categories at a gala programme on April 28, 2019.
Bangladesh has taken up an array of programmes on this occasion. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have given out separate speeches marking the occasion.
